Terracotta earthenware bowl, fired with cobalt oxide over tin white glaze, measuring 190mm across, 70mm high.
Majolica is a style of ceramic that originated in medieval Islamic regions, later championed by Renaissance Italy, where it arrived via the port island of Majorca in Spain. The process involves painting on raw, unfired glaze, allowing pigments to fuse during firing, resulting in a brilliance of colour.
Each item is as unique and singular as its maker’s hand, with no two pieces being the same. Please expect each piece to carry variations bearing out the process by which it was made, with variations to the size, colour and texture.
