Michelle Avison

Michelle Avison can be found on the beach in Scotland, on the west coast of Wales, and in places in between, working in an immediate response to the environment and weather.

Michelle’s work explores the experience of being in the landscape, recording change and passing through. It captures the excitement and challenge of drawing in real-time.

Michelle works outside, and whilst travelling- looking, recording and collecting information through drawing, painting, printing, and sketchbooks, bringing the research back to the studio to develop her prints. Working in series, the prints refer to the repetition of looking and use the printmaking process to develop new landscapes. Michelle works across different printmaking techniques including etching, relief print, drypoint, and monotypes, which use water-washable, less toxic-printing inks.

Michelle studied painting at the Slade School of Art in the late 1980s, going on to study Printmaking MA at Wimbledon School of Art. She is a member of the Royal Society of Printmakers and has work in collections including Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Orchard Solicitors, etc limited, Scarborough Museum and Art Gallery.

Michelle set up HAUSPRINT CIC (formerly SLAUGHTERHAUS Print Studio) with her husband, artist Alex Le Fevre in 2019. HAUSPRINT, in Stockwell, South London is an artist-led printmaking studio providing specialist printmaking equipment, studio access and memberships for artists: it hosts exhibitions, talks and events and runs specialist printmaking courses suitable for all levels from beginner to more experienced printmakers.
