A Shetland Notebook by Norman Ackroyd RA contains 39 watercolours selected from journeys to the edges of the Shetland Islands in the spring and summer of 2012. Ackroyd has spent more than half a century recording the coastal landscapes of the British Isles. With the assistance of local boatmen, he voyages to the remotest corners of Britain, often working from the deck of a small vessel, armed with nothing more than paper, paints, coffee and a mackerel sandwich or two. In his Bermondsey studio, Ackroyd uses his plein air studies as the basis for beautiful monochrome prints etched on copper.
