First Light

March 2024

Our refit, which we introduced in our last mailer, has provided us with a new focus: we have edited down our retail area to concentrate on showcasing the work of emerging artists and artisans involved in creating handmade objects and art pieces.

We now have two discreet gallery spaces: a magnetic wall, which allows us to move works around easily, change the work on show rapidly, have more experimental shows and introduce new artists. This space includes a recessed area where we can show 3D work that allows for collaborations between artists and makers. In the second space we have shows by gallery artists that are more permanent and tend to be framed pieces. The new space also enables us to hold openings, launches and events. Selected works are available in our online shop.

The current show, ‘First Light’, works on paper from Esmé Clutterbuck, continues until the end of April.

Our bookshelf area is another new focal point in which we are selecting books from independent and mainstream publishers that give voice to radical writers and subjects that deal with queer politics, women in the arts, environmental activism and unsung creatives. As well as this we stock an ever-changing range of books and zines from illustrators, artists and writers, a selection of which are available in our online shop.

We’ll be keeping in touch with details of our changing shows and invites to openings and launches, but can confirm that Hannah Bould and Lucy and Guy Rutter are part of our forthcoming Spring/Summer programme.

Many thanks, as ever, to Andrew Hayes-Watkins for the photography.
