9-Storey Slab Block: Churchill Gardens
By John Dargan
£270.00
This painting is one of a series by the artist exploring Churchill Gardens in Pimlico; a housing estate built in 1947 as part of the Abercrombie Plan for London recreating housing after the bombing blitz of World War II. Churchill Gardens housed around 5000 people, and was the only tabled project from the Plan that was finally realised. It was a workable solution to a modern problem – relatively affordable housing.
Dargan’s choice of subject purposefully raises awareness of an effective solution to a pressing problem: fair access to a place to live, in big cities like London.
Original artwork in gouache and coloured pencil. Measures 300mm wide by 210mm high.
