This blanket is inspired by Cueva Beneito, a volcanic cave on the island of La Palma, and symbolizes the concept of the first home. The cave’s long, black shimmering corridor covered in black lava stone is echoed in the creation of this piece; it’s surface reminiscent of the flow and fold of cloth.
Crafted in an artisan mill in Bristol using British wool, the blanket honours local craftsmanship and supports the rich tradition of weaving in Britain. Sustainability is an important part of the design process: the monochromatic scheme minimises dye waste, water usage, and the chemical load of the dyeing process. Unbleached raw wool is used where possible, keeping the fibre as close to it’s natural state as possible.
Mohair gives a visual effect of distortion of the surfaces, and the rhythmic patterns both reveal and conceal the woven structure behind the fog mohair effect. The result is a luxurious, structural blanket with a unique, tricot pattern that conveys a feeling of both simplicity and elegance. Available in two sizes: throw measuring 70cm x 190cm, and blanket measuring 140cm x 190cm. The photograph illustrates the throw size.
